Frequently asked questions

Do you offer telehealth or in person sessions?
I offer both in person and telehealth services. Telehealth allows you to attend therapy from the comfort of wherever you may be located in Washington state. Due to licensing laws, all clients must be physically located in Washington state during therapy sessions.
For in person sessions, my office is located in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle. Nearby public transportation routes are the 62 and 372 bus as well as the Roosevelt light rail station. There is free street parking directly in front of my office building.
How often will we meet?
Research supports meeting at least once a week for you to receive the maximum benefit from therapy. For this reason, I only start work with new clients on a weekly or more frequent basis. This ensures that we start to build our therapeutic relationship and make progress towards your goals. I offer less frequent appointments to established clients when they are transitioning to end our work together.
Do you work with children, teens, or couples?
I work with adult individuals ages 18 and up. Working with children, teens, and couples is not my specialty. However, I have several excellent colleagues who are incredibly skilled in these areas.
Do you write letters for gender affirming care?
Yes! I am experienced with supporting clients throughout the process of accessing gender affirming care, including everything from letter writing to procedure preparation and recovery. For ongoing clients, I’ll be happy to write a letter as part of a regular therapy appointment whenever you ask me to. I believe that accessing gender affirming care should be a more accessible and collaborative process than it often is, which is why I offer one-time virtual sessions solely for the purpose of letter writing. These appointments are a good fit for people who are not interested in ongoing therapy and just need a letter from a mental health professional in support of the care they are seeking. To hear more about how I came to offer these appointments, listen to this episode of the Living in This Queer Body podcast.
What can I expect at a gender affirming care appointment?
The purpose of the appointment is for us to collaborate on a letter that will support you in accessing the care you need. My job in such appointments is to provide a non-judgmental and affirming space to document information about you in accordance with WPATH standards of care. I will share my screen with you throughout the appointment so that you see everything that is written. I aim to provide trauma-informed care, which means I will not ask questions about your personal history that are not relevant to writing the letter.

Do you accept insurance?
I am not paneled with insurance providers. Not being contracted with insurance allows me to protect your privacy and confidentiality, so that the details of your work in therapy stay between you and me. This also means that you and I get to decide how often we meet and how long we work together, rather than a company deciding that for us.
I am considered an out of network provider by insurance companies. I’m happy to provide you with superbills to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Many insurance plans offer reimbursement for therapy by an out of network provider. To learn more about your out of network coverage, you may contact your insurance company by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. Clients are financially responsible for the full cost of therapy sessions at the time of service, regardless of whether their insurance offers reimbursement.
Confused about how to seek reimbursement from your insurance company for out of network services? Reach out to me and I’ll be happy to talk you through this process.
Do you ever offer your services for a reduced fee?
I believe that therapy should be more accessible than it is for most people. I hold a few reduced fee spots among my clients to make therapy accessible for people who otherwise could not afford my services. I prioritize offering sliding scale fees to low income people who are multiply marginalized, such as QTBIPOC, and/or chronically ill/disabled queer, nonbinary, and/or trans people. If that is you, please indicate on your contact form that you are interested in sliding scale services. From there, we can talk about what you can afford to pay for therapy. If I am unable to take you on as a client, I will provide you with referrals for reduced cost therapy options.
How do I pay for services?
At the beginning of our work together, I will ask for credit, debit, HSA, or FSA card information that will be securely associated with your account. Your card will be automatically charged for each session using a HIPAA compliant payment app called Ivy Pay.
